What are Dermal Fillers?

Face and Lip Fillers (Dermal Fillers)

Beautox+ | What are Dermal Fillers? | beautoxplus.co.uk

Face and lip fillers (dermal fillers) are substances injected into your face.

They fill lines and wrinkles and add volume to areas such as your lips or cheeks.

Fillers are not permanent. How long they last depends on things like the type of filler and where it’s injected. They usually last between 6 and 18 months.

Most dermal fillers used in the UK contain a natural substance called hyaluronic acid.

If you have fillers, the rest of your face will continue to age as normal.

How much face and lip fillers cost?

The cost of dermal fillers can range from £200 to several hundred pounds, depending on things like the type of product and number of syringes used, and the complexity of the area being treated, always talk with your treatment provider before hand to make yourself aware of the costs involved

What to think about before you have face and lip fillers?

If you’re thinking about having dermal fillers, be clear about why you want them.

Read more about whether a cosmetic procedure is right for you.

Having dermal fillers is usually safe if it’s done by an experienced and suitably qualified practitioner.

Check the person doing your dermal fillers is on a register to show they meet set standards in training, skill and insurance.

Avoid practitioners who have only completed a short training course.

Book a consultation before you have the procedure.

Ask about:

  • the practitioner’s experience and qualifications
  • the name of the product and how and where it’s made
  • any risks or possible side effects
  • what will happen if things go wrong
  • what insurance cover they have

Read more about choosing who will do your cosmetic procedure.

What happens when you have face and lip fillers?

An anaesthetic cream might be used first to numb your skin. Injections are given around the area of your face being treated, which is then massaged.

It might feel uncomfortable but should not be painful.

The treatment usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Afterwards

The affected area may be a bit red, sore and swollen. Any swelling or bruising should settle down in a few days.

You should be advised about what to do to help reduce the risk of side effects.

This includes not wearing make-up immediately after the procedure and avoiding alcohol, coffee and the sun.

Risks

The risks of dermal fillers depend on whether the procedure was done correctly and the type of filler used. Speak to your practitioner about the risks.

Serious problems are rare, but can include:

  • infection
  • a lumpy appearance under the skin, which might need to be treated with surgery or medicine
  • the filler moving away from the intended treatment area, which may need to be removed using surgery
  • scarring
  • blocked blood vessels in the face, which can cause tissue death and permanent blindness

What to do if you have problems?

If you’ve had dermal fillers and you’re not happy with the results, talk to your practitioner at the clinic where you were treated.

If you have problems, such as lumpiness, follow any aftercare advice you were given by your practitioner, or contact them for advice about what to do.

See your GP if you have complications that need medical attention, or go to your nearest accident and emergency (A&E) if you have an urgent medical issue.

Is a cosmetic procedure right for me?

Having a cosmetic procedure is a big decision, so it’s important not to rush into anything

Beautox+ | Is a cosmetic procedure right for me blog post | www.beautoxplus.co.uk

All procedures have some risks

If you’re disappointed with the outcome, this can also have an impact on your emotional wellbeing.

Some people look at a cosmetic procedure to solve life problems, or during difficult times in their lives.

Do not assume that a cosmetic procedure will make everything better

How you feel about how you look is only one aspect of your wellbeing.

Things like your lifestyle, social life, work and what you eat are also important.

Ask yourself some questions?

If you’re considering a cosmetic procedure, start by asking yourself:

  • What do I want to change and why do I want to have the procedure I’m considering?
  • How long have I thought about this procedure?
  • What’s my current life situation? Am I expecting the procedure to influence my situation?
  • Why am I thinking about a procedure now? What triggered it?
  • Are there other ways I can achieve the changes I want?
  • Am I expecting the procedure to change my life as well as my appearance?
  • Do I want a cosmetic procedure for myself or to please someone else?
  • Am I expecting the procedure to improve my relationship, social skills or job prospects?
  • Can I afford the costs of the procedure and any future costs to maintain the effect?

Do your research

To help you make your decision:

  • find out as much as you can about the procedure you want
  • think about all the costs – including extra costs for aftercare, correcting things if something goes wrong, and future procedures you might need to maintain the look
  • try looking online or on social media for information about body positivity – the idea is you feel confident about how you look

Talk to an expert

Before deciding on any procedure, make sure you speak to a professional.

Book a consultation with the person doing the procedure.

They should:

  • ask you about what you expect
  • talk you through what will happen
  • explain how the procedure will affect you

Be clear about the change you want to see and the reasons why

Read more about choosing who will do your cosmetic procedure

If you’re feeling anxious talk to your treatment provider

Take time to decide

Do not feel pressured or rushed into making a decision.

You should be given a cooling-off period after your consultation to decide if you want to go ahead.

Make sure you:

  • are not tempted by time-limited offers or deals urging you to sign up to a procedure immediately
  • are not pressured into agreeing to extra procedures or treatments you had not considered before arriving at the clinic
  • avoid any group treatments, or treatment events that involve alcohol
  • avoid mobile services where procedures are performed in private homes or hotels

If you’re not completely comfortable with the practitioner or the procedure, remember you can always walk away

“What can I do about all those Lines and Wrinkles that seem to have made themselves a permanent feature on my Face?”

Well don’t panic is the first thing, as that’s what Botox® is here for!

Age, living life, stress, worry and even the environment have played a part in creating all those unwanted facial lines and wrinkles, but we have an answer for it and yes it’s called Botox®

Did you know the actual scientific, non-branded name for Botox® is onabotulinumtoxinA, which is actually one of seven different botulinum toxin strains that are produced from a bacterium called the Clostridium botulinum and was originally intended to treat an eye condition called “Strabismus”

However we have a different use for it and the Botox®, as we will refer to it, is injected by a professionally trained practitioner such as Beautox+ into the facial structure and effectively numb the nerve signals and provides a smooth look to the skin on the forehead, between the eyes and around the nose

So who do you go to in Brighton and Hove to do your Botox® injections, who’s a NMC registered Medical Professional and been trained to the highest standards at the Harley Street Medical Aesthetics Training Academy

Beautox+

I’m Sam, the owner and face behind it all

Choosing who will do your cosmetic procedure?

If you’ve decided to have a cosmetic procedure, you’ll need to choose who will do it. They should have the right training, skills and insurance to safely carry out the procedure.

Lines and Wrinkles Injections | Beautox+ of Brighton and Hove, a non surgical anti ageing aesthetics provider of Botox ® and Dermal Filler treatments treatments | beautoxplus.co.uk |

Book a consultation

Always book a consultation with the person who will do the procedure before making your final decision.

Ask them:

  • how many of these procedures they’ve done
  • what qualifications and training they have
  • if they’re a member of a relevant professional association that shows they meet set standards in training and skill
  • about the most common complications of the procedure
  • what aftercare you can expect and who will look after you
  • what to do if something goes wrong or you’re not happy with the result
  • how much it’ll cost, and if it’ll cost extra to have further treatment if needed

The practitioner should tell you exactly what the procedure involves, including:

  • how it’ll be done
  • how long it’ll take
  • whether anaesthetic is needed

They should also tell you about what to expect after the procedure, including:

  • what pain you can expect afterwards
  • how long the recovery should be
  • the potential risks and complications
  • how long the results will last
  • what you can expect to look like after the procedure

After your consultation

Your practitioner should give you time after your consultation to decide whether you want to go ahead with the procedure.

You can also ask them for information to take away with you, such as a leaflet from the manufacturer of the product they’ll use.

Things to avoid

Do not pay for a procedure until you’ve had a consultation to make sure it’s right for you.

You should also avoid:

  • group treatments, or events involving alcohol
  • treatment vouchers sold online on group discount or voucher sites
  • mobile services where procedures are performed in places such as private homes or hotels
  • practitioners who only advertise on social media

Check the person is qualified

You can see if someone is qualified by checking they’re registered with a suitable specialist association and trained in the right procedures.

Advice on botulinum toxin injections (such as Botox®)

Botulinum toxin injections, such as Botox® or Dysport®, are prescription-only medicines.

They can only be prescribed after a consultation between you and a healthcare professional, such as a doctor or nurse.

The person giving the injections does not have to be the same person who gave you the prescription.

But the prescriber must ensure that the person giving you the injections is trained and safe to do so.

Make sure you know:

  • who the prescriber is
  • who’ll be giving the actual treatment
  • what training and experience they have
  • what the insurance arrangements are

Advice on dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are used for a range of purposes, including lip fillers, and do not always need a prescription.

As there are a lot of different versions available, make sure you ask the practitioner:

  • the name of the product that will be used
  • where the product came from
  • what qualifications, training and experience they have

Avoid practitioners who’ve only completed a short training course in your chosen procedure. This is because complications of dermal fillers can be serious, including infection, nerve damage and blindness.

So as you can see it’s not just a case of cheap and cheerful gives you just the results, it can come with a whole lot of complications you just don’t need?

Beautox+ do all the above and more to ensure you have a safe and trouble free experience when coming to us, so get in touch and lets start your transformation together

Beautox+ | Brighton and Hove | www.beautoxplus.co.uk
Botox® Delivery

Well did you know that Botox® is actually just a tradename for one of the many available Botulinum Toxins, which is the substance that does all the work?

So how does it work?

Botulinum toxin injections, such as Botox®, relax the muscles in your face to smooth out lines and wrinkles, such as crow’s feet and frown lines.

It’s not permanent – it usually lasts for around 3 or 4 months.

In the UK, the cost of botulinum toxin injections can vary from about £150 to £350 for each treatment, depending on the clinic and the area being treated.

Botulinum toxin injections for cosmetic reasons are not available on the NHS.

What to think about before having botulinum toxin injections

If you’re thinking about having botulinum toxin injections, be clear about why you want them.

Make sure the person doing your injections is suitably qualified and experienced.

They should be a medical practitioner and on a register to show they meet set standards in training, skill and insurance.

Avoid practitioners who have no training or have only completed a short training course.

When you meet the practitioner, ask about:

  • their training, qualifications and experience
  • the name of the product, if it’s licensed, and how and where it’s made
  • any risks or possible side effects
  • what will happen if things go wrong
  • what insurance cover they have

Botulinum toxin can only be prescribed in a face-to-face meeting by a qualified medical practitioner, such as a doctor, dentist, pharmacist prescriber or nurse prescriber.

The person prescribing botulinum toxin is responsible for making sure it’s given safely.

They might not give the injections, but they should make sure it’s done by a qualified and experienced practitioner.

When you cannot have botulinum toxin injections

In certain circumstances, botulinum toxin injections are not recommended, including if:

  • you have a skin infection
  • you’re unwell in any way
  • you have a neuromuscular condition like myasthenia gravis
  • you’re taking certain medicines
  • you’re pregnant or breastfeeding

What having botulinum toxin injections involves

Your face will be cleaned and botulinum toxin will be injected into muscles in your face using a very fine needle.

You will need injections in different places, depending on the area being treated. The practitioner will ask you to move the muscles in your face to help find the best place for the injections.

It usually takes about 10 minutes.

Afterwards

You will not see a change straight away.

It takes about 2 or 3 days to start working, and 2 to 3 weeks to see the full effect.

Do not massage or rub your face for 3 days. Also, avoid vigorous exercise, sunbathing (including using sunbeds), and the sauna for 2 days.

Your practitioner should be able to give you more advice about what you should and should not do.

The effects usually last for about 3 or 4 months. If you have botulinum toxin injections again, you should wait at least 3 months. It might stop working if you have it too often.

Risks

The risks of botulinum toxin injections are small if it’s done correctly by a suitably qualified practitioner. Speak to your practitioner about the risks.

After treatment you may have:

  • a headache and flu-like symptoms for the first 24 hours
  • bruising, swelling and redness where the needles went in the skin
  • a frozen look – you might not be able to move the muscles in your face if too much botulinum toxin is injected
  • temporary weakness and droopiness in your face – for example, your eyelids or eyebrows may droop if the botulinum toxin moves into these areas

Very rarely, serious problems such as blurred or double vision can happen if the area around the eyes is treated, or breathing difficulties if the neck area is injected.

What to do if you have problems?

Talk to your practitioner if you’ve had botulinum toxin injections and you’re not happy with the results.

If you have a serious problem, such as difficulty breathing, dial 999 to ask for an ambulance or go straight to your nearest accident and emergency (A&E).

You can also report any side effects directly through the Yellow Card Scheme website. By reporting side effects, you’re providing valuable information about the safety of the product used.
